Minimum Credit Score Requirement Removed
One of the biggest changes for borrowers: Fannie Mae has eliminated the hard 620 minimum credit score cutoff for loans underwritten through the Desktop Underwriter® (DU) system — effective for loans created November 16, 2025 and beyond.
Instead of a rigid credit score floor, DU will evaluate a wider range of financial factors including overall credit behavior, income, and debt ratios.
This update could help buyers with thin or non-traditional credit histories qualify more easily.

✔ More Accessible Financing: Removing a hard credit score floor and broadening renovation/ADU financing could help more local buyers — especially first-timers and non-traditional credit profiles — qualify for mortgages.
